Katie Minoprio is a painter who works in oils from her studio in Kent. Central to her work are forms and shapes referencing flora or fauna, making a vivid, semi-abstract link with the organic world.
She uses a strong combination of intense colour with the inherent dripping of paint to build paintings by layer into an emotive whole, with the aim of engaging the viewer with a sense of conservation/ preservation of the world in which we live.
Katie’s recent paintings are inspired by, for instance, the humidity and heat of the tropical rainforest and lowlands of southeast Asia. The forms and shapes she paints refer to once potent, now fragile ecosystems.
From 2005-7 she trained under Brian and Kath Watterson and Rose Wylie at the ‘School of Tunbridge Wells’ in Monson Road and was awarded a First Class Honours Degree in the History & Philosophy of Art at the University of Kent (Canterbury) in 2012. She has exhibited widely in London and the south-east and has work in numerous private collections in the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark and Kazakhstan.
