Katty McMurray was born in1970, Wimbledon, and studied at Epsom School of Art for a BTEC National Diploma in General Art & Design. In 1989 she went to Chelsea School of Art where she obtained a BA (Hons) degree.

Her work is based on travels to various parts of the world. While away she quickly records shapes, lines and colours in sketchbooks then on returning to the studio, these drawings are used as a basis for her larger paintings in oil on canvas, keeping the strong lines, and using colour to recreate the atmosphere of a place. The cool blues /greys and earthy shades which infuse her work, give the landscapes a simple serenity.

Over the last few years Katty's work has been published as limited edition prints by Artizan Editions and CCA Galleries, as well as posters and cards for the Art Group and Canns Down Press.
