Alison Rankin

After obtaining a degree in Graphic Design in 1975 Alison worked for several years in book and magazine publishing as a designer. She then began working freelance as a photographic stylist, selecting props for editorial and advertising photography. Much of this work was for cookery books and magazines such as Country Living and Good Housekeeping. Her background as a designer and stylist has influenced her work tremendously, as has the many subsequent years she spent producing paint effects for interiors, furniture and photographic sets. She works in acrylics with a great emphasis on colour and composition, and loves conveying the weight and texture of fruit and vegetables, creating a classic and sensuous still life feel. Textures, shapes and colours are harmoniously combined to elevate the mere domestic to iconic status. Her work is exhibited in galeries and at art fairs throughout the UK, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
